Origins
A.R.E.B.A. Casriel, Inc. [ACI] was incorporated 1981 and has
been treating the illness of substance abuse and addiction for over thirty years.
Early History
In the 1960's, New York City psychiatrist Daniel Casriel was
cofounder and psychiatric architect of Daytop Village, a private drug rehabilitation center.
With a grant from the National Institute of Health to study such centers across America, Casriel
paid special attention to California-based Synanon and opened his own treatment facility, ACI.
Steven J. Yohay
entered treatment with Dr. Casriel in 1971 for heroin addiction. He was sufficiently successful in recovery and showed sufficient promise in his grasp of treatment principles that he quickly began training as a counselor. Within four years, he had become Director and now serves as President and CEO. Under his direction, ACI has grown to over twelve times its original size. (Steven J. Yohay Wiki Link)

Today
Now ACI is the premier substance abuse treatment center in New York City serving over 3000 patients
a year in its inpatient facility and over 1000 people in its outpatient services. Despite this growth,
ACI is known to treat each patient with focused individualized attention to their recovery.
Accreditation
ACI is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) since 1993.
The ACI programs are licensed by the
NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), the Federal Office of Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
